One of our favorite moments of the wedding day is the Room Reveal. We love witnessing the final product and getting to show that to the newlyweds. It’s the culmination of everyone’s hard work, and the couple finally gets to see everything come together! We love to give this option to our couples when talking about planning and timing for the day, and it’s very rare that couples don’t want to partake in this special moment.
Why would you do a Room Reveal to begin with? Well, if you don’t, you’ll see the room when the rest of your guests do, and that’s a lot of people to navigate through to notice all of the little details you spent hours planning. We love to have our couples take the time to notice the place settings, lighting, cake, floral and even get a special “private first dance”, too! Depending on who was involved in the planning with you, you might want to include them as well. If mom was there to make every design decision and picked out your napkins, you might want to consider having her present in this moment as well.
Like I said, most of our couples want to share this moment, so it’s something we build into our timelines! It typically happens during cocktail hour, where you can sneak away after some photos, do your Room Reveal and get a few minutes to relax before the real party begins! Since it is built into the timeline, we make sure that your photo & video teams, and even the DJ, are in on it too! This way you get the complete experience with music and even get it captured as well.
We do have to point out that there is a somewhat downside to having a formal Room Reveal, that most couples don’t realize. We have a lot of our clients ask about them joining cocktail hour. In truth, this isn’t a realistic thing to do from a logistics stand point. After your ceremony, you usually take more photos with your spouse and/or family members. If we’re doing a room reveal, we have to prepare for that, bustle your dress and we usually like to follow it with a private moment for you to enjoy some appetizers and champagne before letting your guests in. This is a lot to accomplish in just an hour’s time! If we let you go to cocktail hour in additional to all of this, you’d be there for a few minutes (most likely talking to the same person the entire time) before we pull you. Remember, cocktail hour is meant for your guests to have something to do while you are busy doing wedding things, and not really meant for you to enjoy with them.
As you can see, there are multiple reasons to have a Room Reveal on your wedding day! We plan for it and make sure that your vendor team is involved and that you can enjoy some time as a newlywed couple before the reception starts. We hope that you consider this special moment while planning your special day!
