Congratulations, you’re engaged! You’ve either asked the big question or said YES to the biggest question of your life! It’s such an exciting time for both of your and your families, but let’s be real now, you’re excited to start the planning already. After you’ve come to reality and the excitement is setting in and you’ve shared the news with your families, the real fun starts! We’re covering some of the steps that should immediately follow celebrating your engagement if you’re looking to have the wedding of your dreams.
#ShareIt
One of the first things you’re itching to do once you have the ring is to share it with the world! This is completely normal. However, we do recommend that make sure you’ve told all the ones closest to you first before blasting it for the world to see. You do not want someone’s feelings getting hurt if you were wrapped up in the excitement and Aunt Susie, who you’re close with, had to find out while scrolling her feed. When you do tell you close friends & family, and it’s time to share on social, we do see a lot of couples already have a hashtag at this point. This can allow you and your friends to document the journey with you throughout the planning if they know how to tag their photos!
Celebrate
Engagement parties are an event for everyone to come together to celebrate that you’re getting married. Nowadays, we have seen couples tie this into a housewarming party (if they’ve just moved in together before the wedding) or their families want to host a party in their honor. Either way, this optional step kicks off the planning stage, and be ready to answer all the questions for your guests at this shindig about ‘setting a date’!
Nailing Down a Venue
We’ve said it before and will say it a million times more if needed: you do not have a date until you have a venue. This is something you’ll realize real quick after celebrating your engagement. Yes, you can have a time of year you’d like to get married, but without a venue contract booked, you don’t have a date. That is why this is the most important part of the planning process. Once you have this nailed down, you can start the rest of your planning. It’s very hard to approach other vendors (unless a planner that you’re looking to help you from the very beginning) when you don’t know the date or venue yet. Chances are, you will not be able to book their services without that. Needing help finding the perfect venue? Check out our blog post on FAQs for potential venues.
