Not Just Cake
First, we will let you know that not every wedding has a wedding cake. Some couples don’t like cake, or they only want a cake for them to cut and offer guests other desserts. Donuts, cupcakes, mini pies, cake pops, the list can go on for dessert options. If you do opt for cake, make the flavors fun! We once had a bride with a peanut butter and jelly flavored cake because that’s what they loved. How fun is that?!
The Set up
Next, let’s talk about how these wonderful desserts are displayed. Gone are the days of the boring cake table. The biggest trend we’re seeing is a donut wall, where pegs hold them up. If you’re doing a mix of cake and desserts, you can have stands to display them on, at different levels. A classic dessert display is a dresser. The flat top and the drawers can add for additional storage and gives dimension! Don’t forget to decorate it with floral accents for an extra pop!
Colors
This might be obvious, but make sure the desserts go with your color scheme or are a seasonal treat. We’ve seen fall flavors at November weddings or bright frostings in the summer. The entire dessert display can be cohesive with the rest of your decor, making it look like a well thought out part of your reception!
Signage
Don’t forget to include signage for your guests that include flavors or ingredients. This is especially important for any guests that might have an allergy! Bonus Tip: having branded to go boxes or bags for your guests to make doggie bags will earn you big points. Who doesn’t want to wake up after a wedding and have a sweet treat for breakfast?!
We hope you found some inspiration for planning your dessert display. There are so many ways to showcase your sweets, making it a focal point (and favorite edible) aspect of your celebration!
