It’s no secret that one of our favorite hidden gems in Central Florida is the stunning Howey Mansion. Located in Howey-in-the-Hills, about 40 minutes outside of Downtown Orlando, this historic home is the perfect backdrop for weddings. We recently caught up with the team over there to dive a bit more into their history and general information.
When you first drive up to this landmark, it doesn’t seem that large, but this 20-room mansion was built in 1925 by the community’s founder, William J. Howey. Five years prior, Howey purchased 60,000 acres in central Florida and founded the town that bore his name. Designed by Katherine Cotheal Budd, the home has a Mediterranean Revival vibe to it. Throughout the years, this lavish home has hosted numerous parties with famous guests that include U.S. presidents and Hollywood superstars. After years of being closed, it wasn’t until July 14, 2017 that the team began the amazing adventure to renovate the Howey Mansion into what it is today!
The team that runs the venue is led by another favorite of ours, Arthur’s Catering. The venue offers daily tours, which some of our couples have taken part in before and loved learning more about the property’s history! When working with this knowledgeable team, couples can expect a creative and dedicated staff with extensive wedding and catering backgrounds. The partnership between the venue and catering company is to provide couples with the highest quality in wedding planning, venue management, and cuisine.
One of the coolest things a couple can do when securing this property for their wedding venue is have the option to rent it out for the entire wedding weekend! Imagine staying in a historic mansion with your closest family & friends (17 to be exact), and just having to walk downstairs to get married. If this rental package isn’t what you’re looking for, they have the popular 8 hour venue rental for the day of the wedding as well.
We see a lot of couples incorporate their venue’s vibe into their wedding decor, which makes sense. You don’t want to be in a modern venue with vintage details or vice versa. The team at Howey says a trend they’re loving right now is seeing couples incorporate vintage or boho elements into their wedding décor. “It creates a relaxed but fresh look”, they said. We love how neutral the backdrop of the Howey Mansion is, and have seen all different types of color palettes and decor in the spaces.
Lastly, getting advice from the team at Howey Mansion on the venue search is so valuable. As you know, venues are the very first thing couples should be booking for their wedding, so hearing from a direct source is priceless! “Be flexible with your potential wedding dates. Consider non-Saturday dates, where rates may be lower and will allow you to afford things you might not be able to if you are only open to Saturday wedding dates”. We couldn’t agree more and have loved celebrating with couples on any day of the week.
