We’re talking about one of our favorite subjects-Wedding First Looks! Our clients are constantly asking whether or not they should see each other before the ceremony. There is no right or wrong answer to this. It’s your wedding, so you get to do what works best for the two of you!
We hear it all the time: “but we won’t get that photo-worthy reaction when I walk down the aisle!”. Yes, you still will, but it will be intimate and an even better reaction. The moment walking down the aisle still gives you butterflies, and there won’t be any pressure to have a ‘picture perfect’ reaction in front of all your guests. Also, ten times out of ten, whenever there is a first look, the couple’s nerves are calmed. You two have seen each other, shared a moment and are just so excited to get married!
Something we can’t stress enough is that Wedding First Looks are a moment alone for just the two of you (plus your photo/video team). The truth is, you will not get another moment alone all day (really, no joke) until the wedding is over. Cherish it! A big pro that your entire vendor team loves is there’s less stress to get ALL of your photos done during cocktail hour. There’s a lot that needs to happen as soon as you’re married. Family portraits, bridal party group photos, and the newlyweds’ session. If you get some of this done prior to your ceremony, it leaves more room to possibly enjoy your own cocktail hour and not stress so much to get all the photos done.
Last but not least, your photos! Photos are going to help you remember this day for the rest of your life, so you want to make them count! Being relaxed when taking your photos will definitely show. If you’re stressed about time and rushed, that will also show! Enjoy a private setting with your almost-spouse and document your love for one another, how it should be.
We hope this helped educate you on whether or not you are thinking about Wedding First Looks. It is a somewhat newer tradition, so not having one is how it’s always been done. We are happy to educate & guide our couples in the best direction that’s right for them. We take this into consideration when creating their timeline and whether they will be incorporating a first look or not. Either way, you will get dreamy photos that you will cherish for years and years to come!
