Our owner was recently featured in an article on Every Last Detail on ‘Why You Don’t Want to DIY Your Wedding’. She goes over some items that brides or grooms might not think of when attempting the DIY route for their big day. A big part of our job is to educate, so we hope you are able to take something away from this feature!
Let’s start by saying that we are always encouraging hiring a professional to ‘just hang a few flowers’ or to ‘provide 200 votive candles’ or to ‘just bartend’. Trust us, you, your fiance, your aunt Susie or any family member will not want to put the work in on your wedding day to do any of that. Not to mention, there’s the liability issue as well. Professional vendors have the staff, insurance, quality control and experience, so let them handle it!
As we explain in the article on Every Last Detail, we hear all the time from couples that they want to buy the lanterns, chargers, votives, candles, aisle decor, etc for their weddings. What they often don’t think about is the logistics of getting all of that decor to/from the venue and who will set it up. Our services come with set up of personal items, such as guest book, table numbers, favors, programs etc. We make it very clear that we are not able to do the work that could’ve been outsourced by another vendor, simply because of timing purposes. If all of our team’s energy is spent placing tons of decor items, we can’t focus on what we’re really there to do-coordinate everyone! Also, a simple question/realization we bring up is ‘What are you going to do with all of that after the wedding?’ That is something not everyone really thinks about. It’s also a huge burden for your family or bridal party to have to transport car(s) full of items before and after the wedding is over.
“My point is that with the money and energy you’re spending on gathering, purchasing, or making- and then attempting to sell these items- you could have just had a rental company, floral designer, or linen company provide them for you!. The advice I can give any couple considering DIYing and buying ALL THE THINGS is this: less is more, quality over quantity, and don’t sweat the small stuff! Focus on the details, but keep things simple- and hire professionals to keep your stress level down!” – Caitlin
